About Therapy with Me

1891230616You’ve decided to try counseling.

Your level of anxiety has increased just thinking about it! I applaud you for having the courage to choose to do this for yourself.

You’ve been struggling for some time now and want to find a solution to your doubts and fears. The confusion is overwhelming at times. What kind of life is this? You know there must be more to it.

Although you may feel at your wit’s end, there is a sense of relief at having made the decision to seek help. It seems a bit odd, but your willingness to change, to choose to reach out, gives you hope – and hope brings you air to breathe.

Grab a cup of coffee and get comfortable!

Our sessions together will feel like a conversation that cultivates genuineness, acceptance, and understanding, producing a foundation of trust. It’s safe to be vulnerable here. You can share your thoughts and concerns and, most importantly, be heard.

The work will be difficult at times. It requires you to take a good look in the mirror, identify areas that may have been neglected or pushed away, and process them openly. Questions will be asked to challenge existing beliefs and assumptions and gain clarification.

It will be hard at times, but it’s a ‘good hard’ as you create new insights. You will feel lighter and liberated when our time together ends.

ABOUT ME

AdminMy life has been rich.

Whether you are a couple or an individual, I will bring my nine years of counseling experience, 36 years of marriage, and 28 years of military service – and most likely my own cup of coffee!

I love my coffee and have a cup every morning with my wife. This is one of our morning rituals. It wasn’t always this way, though. I have walked my own road of marital discontent.

After years of struggling to fix our marriage myself, I had to admit I couldn’t. I needed help!

Couples counseling brought new life to our marriage.

I had to unlearn many of my beliefs, build new ones, and step into a new way of thinking and behaving. Fortunately, my wife was gracious and patient with me and willing to do her own work. We now actually love our rituals together, like that first cup of coffee each morning.

From my life experiences, I leaned into the therapy world and went back to school to obtain my graduate degree in counseling in 2013 from Wayland Baptist University. I grew to understand better how people function and learned to identify core beliefs and patterns that contribute to a discontented life – as well as what we can start doing or stop doing to experience the life we were created to live.

My background guides my approach to each session, where I strive to help you find the same path to freedom I did. Allow me to walk alongside you in this new journey of exploring who you are and where you want to go.

When I’m not working…

I find relaxation in simple ways. Sitting in my backyard soaking in the sun with my eyes closed and listening to the sound of the leaves blowing in the wind and the birds as they sing.

Walking in the park with my wife and our dog, an American Bulldog who looks intimidating but is really just a goofy puppy dog at heart!

Of course, I love to travel. I enjoy long drives that result in a visit with my children and grandchildren. It is a dual purpose, though, because I will be exploring the local and national parks to find the best hike.
